In 2000, the cathedral initiated the development of a children’s program known as the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This is a Montessori-based program that nurtures a child’s unique ability to be open to a relationship with God.
Today, the cathedral offers three levels of the Catechesis programming for children age 3 to 12, October through May. (We offer a children's summer funfest on Sunday mornings June through September.) A Sunday morning class, starting at 9:00 a.m., serves the needs of children whose families are members of the church. A Tuesday, late afternoon class, serves children outside the cathedral congregation.
Children enrolled in the Catechesis program do not need to be members of an Episcopal church, but support of parents or an instrumental adult is critical for the child to gain the greatest benefit.
