“Put things in order; … live in peace …”
–2 Corinthians 13:11
Our Reconciliation Ministries team has worked diligently in formulating a mission for us to follow, including how we as a congregation can live out the spirit of reconciliation through intentional and focused works. The team members have initiated efforts such as the Conversation Cafe, to help people to listen deeply to another. They have published a pamphlet, We Are All One, as a guide for healthy group interactions, and a booklet of prayers for forgiveness. They have hosted lectures and films, conferences and programs.
Last spring, our Reconciliation Ministries sponsored a workshop on
class for members of the congregation. Class, according to the New York Times,
is "a powerful force in American life." Dr. George Lakey currently the
Eugene M. Lang Visiting Professor in Issues of Social Change at
Swarthmore College, facilitated. Members are currently discussing the book, Class Matters by Betsy Leondar-Wright, as a follow-up. The
text focuses on ways people can "get together better" across class
differences, while providing a more inclusive, positive approach to
social justice.
