Hunger WalkJoin our 5000 Club volunteers in Cincinnati's annual Hunger Walk on Memorial Day, May 26. The 3.1 mile walk (or 5K run) begins in Lytle Park at 9:00 a.m. Money raised will go to the 5000 Club or another member agency of the Freestore/Foodbank, which annually distributes over ten million pounds of food to 160,000 people in need throughout the tri-state area. To request a registration brochure, click here (msackett@ami-service.com), or see one of the 5000 Club volunteers in the undercroft after morning services. Summer in the City
Last year, we ran a Summer in the City Vacation Bible School that was such a success we are doing it again. The 2008 program will be held Monday through Friday, July 7 to 11, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The program promises to be bubbling over with excitement with the Power Lab, a wonderful curriculum that teaches about Jesus. If you would like to volunteer to help, contact Judy Beiring. Share a RideYou can make a difference in someone's life by giving members who can't drive a ride to church. For more information and to volunteer your services, please contact Isabella Murphy. The Plumb Line Ministry:Since 1990 volunteers have been working out of a cathedral office to help people who are facing eviction from their homes or who are in need of a gift from our food pantry. Fifteen social service agencies refer people to the Plumb Line. We serve more than 300 people a year. Peaselee Neighborhood Center:To advance literacy among children, the Peaslee Neighborhood Center is starting a new volunteer program in its child development center. The aim of the program is to familiarize pre-school students with books. Volunteer readers are needed. You may also help by donating new or gently used picture and early reader books for the program. (Leave your donation at the church reception desk.) Kelli Bell is spearheading an effort at the cathedral to support this program. Contact Kelli for more information. Cathedral's Financial Support:The Cathedral Mission Outreach & Grants Committee welcomes proposals from cathedral members who are persoanlly involved in a project of the institution requesting the grant. The cathedral gives thousands of dollars in outreach grants to various organizations each year. If your organization would like to seek funding from the cathedral click here. And more:The cathedral has volunteer opportunities at the Drop Inn Center and through the Amos Project. And we do our best to make the Christmas holiday season happier for those in need. We also have a lay ministry program that serves the needs of our own members. If you would like to get involved in any of these ministries or if you have an idea for a new ministry we can pursue, click here. |
